I took a walk today
Down a bright worn road
With no shoes on, with just my clothes
You see,
It was only me
And as I walked the birds swooped on by
The wind came my way and then it passed
Me
With such jubilee
And for the first time
In a while
I could sit down
And simply smile
Because I let go of all the things that
Kept me at the bottom of the hill
And so I found one
Underneath a tree
And I climbed it
With the flowers and the bees
Then I rolled down
Just like a barrel to the sea
Just me
The sun in the sky said hello
And kissed my cheek
Like a good fellow
And he grinned,
A very incandescent grin
And it was contagious so I smiled too
And I danced to music that wasn't there
It was in my head, but I didn't care
Because today was a happy day
There was no one there to be in my way
And as I made my way back home
I wondered how many of us really roam
A deer ran by and I swear he winked
A firefly buzzed near and happily he blinked
I made my way into the lawn
The grass in my toes and the sprinkler on
And I ran through until I got tired
Then I went inside and I simply admired
Today. And it started out grey.
Today I changed everything
At least for today.
